Honey & Garlic Cuisine, Markham

Today was the actual day my in-laws were married 50 years ago. We celebrated last week because some of the kids couldn't make it today but during the week plans changed and everyone was available. We went back to the same restaurant as last week. Honey & Garlic Cuisine in Markham. The food is always good.

Tonight we ordered the set dinner for ten and added two more dishes, vegetarian chow mein, sweet & sour pineapple tofu, and snowpea leaves fried in garlic.

Nibbles to start...pickled ginger, pickled cucumbers and honey, garlic taro.
Stirfried fish with crispy skin
Fried tofu with Broccoli
Crispy Chicken with Shrimp Chips
Abalone with Baby Bok Choy
Snowpea leaves stirfried with garlic
Lobster stirfried with garlic and ginger
Crab Claws
Vegetarian Chow Mein
Sweet & Sour Pineapple Tofu
Beef and Mushrooms on a bed of Asparagus
Honey and Garlic Oysters with fried Taro

  1. Okay, this has got to stop! I'll be pounding on the door of some poor Chinese restaurant in Minneapolis, demanding all these dishes. If they make at least the warm tofu with ginger syrup, I might be appeased.

  2. Looks like you all had a feast...again! Black sesame soup is one of my favorite desserts. I am going to make some soon - probably this weekend. I bought the sesame seeds and just waiting for time to soak & grind everything. Will try this restaurant for dinner soon. I've done dim sum a few times there and it's also very good. I've so many great things about it.

  3. Just wondering how much the set dinner set you back and do you have to make reservation and order ahead?

  4. Luckily for me I did not have to pay for this meal. I think it was about C$200. You would have to order this meal in advance but they have great set meal specials that you can order once you get there. This restaurant is always busy. It's best to make a reservation otherwise you may have to wait at least an hour.

  5. We had my Grandma's 90th birthday party here. Our bill for three tables was about $1000 and as soon as dessert came, they were pushing us out the door because they had reservation on the tables for after us.

We had red bean dessert and almond paste but our table still had 1/4 of a bowl of red bean left with three people still wanting more of it when the waitress threw an empty pop can into the bowl and took it away.

We also have an 11th month old baby and were trying to get her into her snowsuit beside the table when they were sitting the next party down.

  6. The story about your poor experience is unfortunate, but $1000 for 3 large banquet tables is not much to expect superb service. This restaurant is known for value (not service) and needs to make money afterall.
