I'm still stuffing my face with my girlfriend from Florida. Yesterday she had five meals...the last one with me when we ran out at 9:30pm to hunt down a large red bean slush. We hit three different places before we could satisfy her craving.
Stop number two was Asian Legend , specializing in Northern Chinese cuisine, to pick up some dessert. Look at this perfect pearl made of rice flour and black sesame paste. Served with a sweet gingery soup made this absolutely yummy. It was so smooth in my mouth and the black sesame paste was a sweet surprise as you bit into it.
This is the red bean ice drink that we drove all over the neighbourhood for. That was our stop number three. She said it was so yummy...but I opted for a cold HK style tea instead. Needless to say I didn't get to sleep until 3am!
This was another dessert from Asian Legend. It's a red bean pancake. I would say the texture is more like an Indian paratha. Crispy and sweet. Perfect for a late night snack.

ReplyDeleteBalck sesame paste sounds great, I haven't heard of it before but the thought of it intrigues me. I do really like red bean paste and the pearl looks very cool once you get past the thought of boiled egg. I have been eating a lot of Japanese yams lately, they are SO sweet, have the aroma almost of rose petals and have a great texture, I am wondering if I can make some kind of candy with them. Suggestions anyone? Thanks for the delicious post.

ReplyDeleteAside from being yummy, red beans are rather healthful. I especially enjoy the hot (dessert) soup made therefrom.
ReplyDeleteI love red bean desserts whether it's in ice cream, Vietnamese style with glass jellies and coconut milk, or as filling in sweet breads. That just looks so good. I'm jealous! haha!
