Biryani Rice and Chicken

My cousin's daughter planned a surprise party for her mom last week. She's only eighteen so it was a potluck dinner thing. I LOVE potlucks! It's a great opportunity to try new foods and taste other people's "gourmet" dishes. I made some chicken souvlaki. It was delicious! But I had to SELL my dish to everyone. "Have you tried my chicken yet?", "It's really tender and juicy.", "Hey I didn't see you have any of my chicken!".

I'm sure by the end of the night people were turning corners as soon as they saw me coming! My favourite dish of the night was this Biryani Rice dish. I'll call it Sunita's Bestest Biryani Rice. I couldn't get enough of it! I was selling her rice as much as I sold my own. I NEED that recipe!!!

Potluck with the cousins

It was potluck lunch with the cousins today. There was a wonderful turn out with 8 women and their children getting together for great food and company. Menu today started off with cheese and liver pate with crackers and then we moved onto the main course of Vietnamese chicken, broiled garlic shrimp, coleslaw, sugar snap peas served with long grain white rice.

Surprisingly we still had room for all the delicious desserts. We had the good...healthy fruit... along with the bad...sweet, decadent cake and cookies. Most of the food was homemade. I love these opportunities to try new recipes and to test the other girls' cooking skills. I have to admit that my cousins are much better cooks than I.
Needless to say I will not be eating much dinner tonight.

Potluck lunch

I had potluck at my house today. My cousins like to meet once a week and eat. It's great to get together and try new recipes. I made my zucchini loaf which was delicious...or so they said...but who cares because I love it and that's all that matters in my little world.
The food is always good and the company even better. We love catching up on what's happened during the week and when we run out of things to talk about, we end up teasing and making fun of each other which always ends with a good laugh.

Today's menu was zucchini loaf, President's Choice Chicken Nuggets, Costco Chicken Penne in a cream sauce and coconut creme pie for dessert. We were stuffed afterwards and made plans for another potluck on Monday.
